ENZYME SYSTEMS IN TETRAHYMENA GELEII S

I. ANAEROBIC DEHYDROGENASES CONCERNED WITH CARBOHYDRATE OXIDATION

Gerald R. Seaman 1

1 From the Department of Biological Chemistry, School of Medicine, Creighton University, Omaha

The rates of activity of the dehydrogenase systems in Tetrahymena, which are concerned with carbohydrate oxidation, in descending order of activity are: lactic > isocitric > succinic = glucose > glucose-6-phosphate = 6-phosphogluconic = malic > glutamic = cytochrome linked alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase.

No evidence was obtained to indicate the presence of DPN linked alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase.
