About the Cover

Cover Figure

The Journal of General Physiology 114 3 Cover picture: Gating of single large conductance Ca21-activated K1 (BK) channels in high Ca21i (1,024 mM). Single-channel recordings (top left) show that the channel gates mainly among long openings and brief closings, with some longer closings. The top and bottom traces are 1,000 and 100 ms in duration, respectively; O and C indicate open and closed current levels. The two-dimensional dwell-time distribution (top middle) indicates that the adjacent open and closed interval durations are correlated (top right). These and other observations suggest that Ca21i may activate BK channels as illustrated (bottom).
