About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Whole colicin Ia makes an 40 pS channel with four membrane-spanning segments. If upstream T and R domains are removed, the first membrane-spanning segment (H1)can move across the membrane, resulting in a transition from the 40 pS to an 7 pS channel with only three membrane-spanning segments. See related article by Kienker, P.K., K.S. Jakes, R.O. Blaustein, C. Miller, and A. Finkelstein in this issue, pp. 161–176.
