About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Two populations of insulin-containing granules in pancreatic B-cells, the readily/immediately releasable pool (IRP/RRP) in the vicinity of L-type calcium channels and the highly calcium-sensitive pool (HCSP) discovered by Wan et al. and Yang and Gillis. Release of HCSP granules is increased by phosphorylation or glucose and should dominate insulin secretion at low stimulation intensities (see article by Barg and Rorsman, 623).
